College Now

College Now offers eligible high school students the opportunity to improve academic performance and get a jumpstart on college.

It began in 1984 at Kingsborough Community College, and since then has helped over 60,000 high school students.  Today, seventeen City University of New York (CUNY) colleges partner with NYC high schools under The College Now Initiative.

College Now is a comprehensive collaborative of CUNY and the New York City Department of Education designed to bridge secondary and post secondary education.  City Tech recruits students from designated high schools for enrollment into this college transition program that offers a variety of preparatory and credit courses.

    College Now is a comprehensive collaborative program of City University of New York and the New York City Department of Education designed to bridge secondary and post-secondary education. As a pathway between high school and higher education, College Now at City Tech recruits students from designated high schools for enrollment into this college transition program. It offers college credit-bearing coursework without tuition, book fees or other costs to high school students. Classes meet after the regular high school day and/or on Saturday. Our goals are to increase students’ awareness of the demands of higher education, prepare them to enter post-secondary education without remediation, and facilitate a smooth transition between high school and college.

    NOTE: The per credit hour cost of $260 is based on New York City College of Technology 2014-15 fees for part-time students who live in New York State. Therefore, the savings for students will be somewhat greater if they matriculate at a college or university that has higher tuition fees.

    At New York City College of Technology (City Tech), College Now is a pathway between high school and higher education. College Now offers a variety of programs without tuition, book fees or other costs to high school students. Classes meet after the regular high school day and/or on Saturday.

    What Type of Student Qualifies for College Now?
    College Now seeks serious, committed high school students who are interested in earning a college degree, and willing to work toward achieving their academic goals.

    What Is the Pathway from High School to College Now?
    College Now informs high school guidance or college counselors of program services and procedures. Students submit applications to the high school guidance or college counselors. Each high school College Now program coordinator reviews students' high school grades and Regents scores. Depending on grades and test scores, high school juniors and/or seninors may be permitted to take college credit-bearing courses.
